Su nombre deriva de la isla Iheyajima y del latín silva (bosque), en referencia a su hábitat forestal. Nombres comunes sugeridos: Iheya-BāBā-Tokage (japonés) y Iheya Barbour’s blue-tailed skink (inglés).
